history
The area near the border between the old Spiš and Liptov counties became part of the Spišský Štiavnik Abbey shortly after the Mongol invasion in 1421 . Mengusovce was first mentioned in writing as Mengus in 1398 . In 1598 Mengusovce became the property of the Mariássy family , which lasted until the beginning of the 20th century. In 1828 there were 60 houses and 425 inhabitants.
Until 1918 the place in Zips County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.
In 1947, large parts of the municipality in the High Tatras were ceded to today's city of Vysoké Tatry. Geographical names such as Mengusovská dolina (valley), Veľký Mengusovský štít ( 2438 m nm high peak in the main ridge) and Prostredný Mengusovský štít ( 2393 m nm high peak in the main ridge) remind of the former affiliation .
From 1960 to 1990 the neighboring town of Štôla was part of Mengusovce.
