Svit is a town at the foot of the High Tatras in the landscape Zips ( Prešovský kraj , Slovakia ), near the town of Poprad .
The present-day town was founded in 1934, initially under the name Baťovce (after the Baťa concern , which built a settlement for the workers here). At first the place was a part of Veľká , which is now part of Poprad . From 1937 the district was officially called Svit (stands for the abbreviation of " S lovenské vi zkózové t ovárne" [Slovak viscose factory]). On June 4, 1946, the community was declared independent. In 1962 it was granted city status.
The urban area encompasses large parts of what was then Batizovce , but also smaller parts of Spišská Teplica , Lučivná and Mengusovce .
