Pressman produced over 80 films in his career, in which one can not recognize any genre fixation. Pressman hired numerous young talents for his projects, which made their careers jump upwards.

Pressman, the prolific New York independent producer, found the conditions in Los Angeles more pleasant, so he moved there. Only in 1995 did he move back to his homeland to tackle a typical New York project with Al Pacino , John Cusack and Danny Aiello : City Hall by Harold Becker .

Pressman's specialty as a producer is finding talent and new paths in filmmaking. He is especially known for advancing the careers of young and inspired filmmakers. So he procured z. For example, Oliver Stone had the opportunity to make his debut The Hand , before the two Oscar-winning works Wall Street: Money Doesn't Sleep and Talk Radio were shot. With Brian De Palma in the director's chair, Pressman created the thriller Sisters and The Phantom in Paradise . Badlands was the debut of director Terrence Malick , then Pressman Sylvester Stallone directed the film Atrium to Paradise . Pressman served as executive producer on both films.

Rainer Werner Fassbinder was able to make his first English-language film Despair , the Taviani brothers shot Good Morning Babylon under Pressman (again with Pressman as Executive Producer). He also brought Wolfgang Petersen's Das Boot onto America's screens in a special Director's Cut version, which brought in one of the highest grossing results for a foreign film in the history of American cinema.

Pressman has a nose for projects that earn him critical and public acclaim. So he had the affair around Claus von Bülow filmed. The film won an Oscar for Best Actor , Jeremy Irons . Bad Lieutenant by Abel Ferrara and Homicide - Homicide by David Mamet have been included in many critics' lists of the "10 best films of the year".

In 2000 Pressman completed the film, the rights of which he had bought seven years earlier. He had the screenplay for American Psycho , based on a novel by Bret Easton Ellis , rewritten several times. Christian Bale became a star with a very controversial film at a time when there was much and extensive discussion about violence in the media.

In September 2001 he founded a new company with John Schmidt, ContentFilm , a production and sales company in New York. Pressman works closely with his friend Terrence Malick and his production company Sunflower Production .

The American Film Magazine called Pressman as the best producers in the 1980s. The BAMcinematek in New York City honored him in February 2001 with a 25-film retrospective.

Pressman's international influence stems from the 1989 retrospective of the French Cinematheque .
