Undertow (Original title: Undertow ) is an American thriller drama from the director David Gordon Green with Jamie Bell , Josh Lucas and Dermot Mulroney from 2004.

action

John Munn lives in Georgia with his two sons Chris and Tim. When John's brother Deel, who has just been released from prison, shows up with the family, he first integrates himself into the family. Deel tries to question his two nephews because he is looking for something, but does not receive any information that could help him. When neither the two sons nor John are in the house, Deel rummages through cupboards and chests of drawers in the house and finally finds the gold coins he is looking for behind a family portrait in John's room. Since John surprises Deel when he is stolen, they both get into a fight, in the course of which Deel kills his brother. To cover his tracks, he also tries to kill his two nephews.

Chris and Tim flee across the house first and Chris can push his uncle out of the window when he is inattentive, take the gold coins and flee with his brother into the adjacent forest.

When Deel wakes up in front of the house, Chris and Tim have disappeared and it is already dawn when he buries his dead brother behind the house. He tries to cover up the traces of the murder in the house himself by wiping up the pool of blood from his brother.

Meanwhile, the two brothers flee through the forest, spend the night there and stay with the Pela couple the next day. Amica Pela finds a phone number on Tim's rucksack and informs Deel where the two boys are. When Deel turns up at the couple's house shortly afterwards, Chris and Tim have already fled into the forest again.

Deel follows the trail of the brothers and discovers Chris as he is filling up his car. He follows Chris to a junkyard, but is noticed by the two brothers, because he gets caught in Chris' improvised alarm system made of ropes and pieces of metal and makes a lot of noise. Chris and Tim are able to escape their uncle again by jumping on a passing train. This will take you to a place where the homeless live and meet Violet there.

When Violet first tries to steal the gold coins from Chris, Chris wants to give them to her because he and his brother have lost everything. While Chris is talking to Violet, Deel appears and threatens Chris. Violet knocks Deel down and escapes towards the river with Chris, Tim who has joined them and the sock with the gold coins. Since Tim cannot walk any further on the way to the river, Violet gives Chris the gold pieces and separates from Chris together with Tim.

Chris later stands in the middle of an arm of the river and calls for Deel to lure him to him. When Deel appears on the bank, Chris takes the gold coins out of the sock and throws them all around him in the river. Deel is stunned and goes to Chris in the river, grabs him and pushes him under the water until he thinks Chris is dead. However, he himself realizes that his own knife, with which he wanted to kill Chris, is stuck in his chest.

When Chris opens his eyes again, he is in a hospital and both his brother Tim and his grandparents are there, who want to look after the two boys in the future.
