Ampasimanolotra , formerly Brickaville , is a small town in the Atsinanana region (formerly Toamasina province ) in Madagascar . Ampasimanolotra is located on both sides of the Rianila lower reaches immediately below the mouth of the Rongaronga in the lowland on the east coast between Toamasina and Mananjary . The name goes back to Charles Bricka, who worked as an administrator during the French colonial times for the construction of railways.

An estimated 8,800 people live within a seven-kilometer radius. The location of the place is given as 3 meters above sea level.

Ampasimanolotra is very well developed for traffic: In addition to the navigable Rianila, the place is crossed by the railway line between the two largest cities of Madagascar, Toamasina - Antananarivo (see rail traffic in Madagascar ) and by national road 2 (RN2), both of which are here bridge the river. Ampasimanolotra is located in the middle of very fertile land and lives primarily from the cultivation of cane sugar as well as from the cultivation of fields, fruit and vegetables all around.

The steel truss bridge dates from 1955, combines rail and car traffic on one level and has a span of 71 meters. Ampasimanolotra gained greater fame in 2002 because the bridge was blocked by the residents for several months in the wake of general unrest and prevented the movement of people and goods between the two main cities in the country. Since then, the image of the place has suffered greatly for both of the then controversial camps.

From 2005 to 2008, the Hümmling-Gymnasium in Sögel supported its partner Lycée in Ampasimanolotra as part of a school sponsorship with a project to reforest destroyed primary forests worth 15,000 euros that had been hit by cyclones . This project was supported by the German Federal Environment Foundation .
