Podbanské (German sub mines , Hungarian Podbanszkó ) is a district of the town Vysoke Tatry on the Slovak side of the High Tatras on the border of Western Tatras on the river Belá and is also the westernmost district of the city. Parts of the place belong to the municipality of Pribylina . The center of the village is at an altitude of 940  m nm

The beginnings of the place go back to the 15th century and the mining at the foot of the Kriváň, hence the name (something like "place under the mine"). However, the gold deposits were too small to drive long-term mining in the high mountains. In the 19th century a hunter's house, a saw and a mill to supply a factory in Liptovský Hrádok were built here . At the same time, the development of tourist activities began, but it was not until 1925 that a night camp was opened. The place experienced a major boom after the Second World War and a hotel was built before the Nordic World Cup in 1970 .

However, compared to other districts of Vysoké Tatry, Podbanské remains less affected and offers several options for easier mountain hikes. From here you can go on mountain hikes to the Kriváň ( 2494 m nm ), a national symbol  of Slovakia.
