Karsten Nied (born August 8, 1969 in Berlin ) is a former German soccer player .

Player career

Nied played in the Hertha BSC youth team from 1975 . From 1988, Nied then belonged to the second team at Hertha. With this he should cause a sensation in the 1992/93 season in the DFB-Pokal when he made it to the final with the Hertha-Bubis . On the way there, defending champions Hannover 96 (4: 3) and Bundesliga club 1. FC Nürnberg (2: 1) were defeated. In the semi-finals, the team had to move to the Berlin Olympic Stadium , as 56,540 spectators wanted to see the game against Chemnitzer FC . With a 2-1 win, the amateurs secured participation in the final at the same venue. Nied led his team, which later included the Bundesliga players Christian Fiedler , Carsten Ramelow and Oliver and Andreas Schmidt , as captain in the final against Bayer 04 Leverkusen . There the Hertha amateurs lost 0: 1 to a late goal from Ulf Kirsten .

After a total of 18 years at Hertha, Nied left the club in the summer of 1993. Then Nied went to the then second division tennis Borussia Berlin , but both there and a year later at FC Gütersloh he was unable to build on his performance at Hertha.

In 1996 he then signed a contract with regional league team Spandauer SV , which he extended after one season.

Coaching career

Following his career as a player, Nied worked as a coaching assistant at 1. FC Wilmersdorf for many years .
