Andreas Schmidt in the Hertha BSC professional team

Schmidt's greatest strength was his universal ability to be deployed in various positions in midfield and defense. Several times he served successfully in international games as a man deck for opposing stars. Due to his position, he often acted inconspicuously, but consistently successfully without major form fluctuations. With the strengthening of the Hertha team and the accompanying increasingly better teammates, his universality became a problem: Schmidt was never considered to be outstanding in any position, and the pressure of competition was getting tougher for him.

Schmidt had been a standby professional since the 2005/2006 season . He was available to the 2nd team as an experienced player and passed on his experience to young players. At the same time, he helped out in the Bundesliga team if necessary. In the 2006/2007 season Schmidt came, e.g. B. due to injuries or yellow card suspensions of players of the professional squad, repeatedly used successfully in the Bundesliga team. During the 07/08 season he made six appearances in the 1st Bundesliga. He wore the number 19 on both teams.

At the beginning of May 2008, Andreas Schmidt announced in the RBB-Sportplatz that he would end his career after the 07/08 season. On May 10, 2008, Hertha fans said goodbye to the game of Hertha against Nuremberg to great applause and chants. In future, Andreas Schmidt will work for Laransa Consulting AG in Berlin as a consultant for football professionals. On May 31, 2010 he was elected by the general assembly as deputy chairman of the supervisory board of Hertha BSC GmbH & Co. KG aA.
