Liptovský Hrádok (until 1927 Slovak "Hrádok"; German rarely Liptau-Hradek , outdated also Neuhäusel in the Liptau , Hungarian Liptóújvár ) is a town in central Slovakia with 7397 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is considered the tourist center of the upper Liptau valley.
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1341 as Ujwar . The place Dovalovo (incorporated in 1971) also belongs to it . At the beginning of the 19th century, the city was granted trade and city privileges. This made it possible to trade regional products such as timber , shingles , salt , iron , copper , cheese products , dried plums , herbs and medicinal oils as well as weapons . These products were transported with rafts across the Waag to the southwest to the Danube .
The hiking areas in the central and eastern part of the Low Tatras can be easily reached from the town of Liptovský Hrádok .
In the urban area of the river flows Belá in the recently from White Waag and Black Waag incurred river Waag . The Waag in turn flows into the Danube about 350 kilometers downstream.
