geography

The municipality is located in the central Liptov. The 23.2 km² large municipal area extends from the Podtatranská kotlina basin in the north ( 602  m nm ) to the main ridge of the Low Tatras in the south ( Chabenec mountain , 1955  m nm ). The Dúbravka brook flows across the municipality and flows into the Waag via the Liptov reservoir . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 636  m nm and is 16 kilometers from Liptovský Mikuláš and 21 kilometers from Ružomberok .

history

The place was first mentioned in writing in 1372 as Dobrava and belonged to local nobles. According to fragments from the local church, the development of the village is dated to the last third of the 13th century. In 1828 there are 71 houses and 694 inhabitants.

Iron ore and antimony mines have existed in the Low Tatras near Dechtárka since the 18th century. These were stopped in 1908, after which most of the miners emigrated to France, Belgium or to the mines in Handlová . The antimony mines were reopened shortly after 1945 and operated until the 1990s.

Until 1918, the place in Liptov County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.
