Bukovina (Hungarian also Bukovina ) is a municipality in northern Slovakia with 97 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to the Okres Liptovský Mikuláš , part of the Žilinský kraj , and is part of the traditional Liptov region .

Surroundings of Bukovina

The community is located in the middle of the Liptovská kotlina basin (part of the larger Podtatranská kotlina ) below the Choč Mountains by the Sestrč brook . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 591  m nm and is 17 kilometers from Liptovský Mikuláš .

The formerly independent towns of Dušany (incorporated after 1808) and Jánošovce (incorporated after 1913) also belong to the municipality.

Neighboring municipalities are Liptovská Anna in the west and north, Ižipovce in the east and Bobrovník in the south.

history

Bukovina was first mentioned in writing in 1297 as silva Nagbukovina and was created in a forest by the Sestrč brook , which was donated by Andreas III. a certain Ludwig, son of Nose. Over the centuries the village was owned by the local landed gentry. In 1784 the village had 17 houses and 88 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 15 houses and 159 inhabitants who were employed as farmers and forest workers.

The place in Liptov County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to Czechoslovakia and finally to Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, there were 112 inhabitants in Bukovina, 109 of them Slovaks . Three residents did not provide any information about their ethnicity.

55 residents committed themselves to the Evangelical Church AB, 40 residents to the Greek Catholic Church and one resident to the Evangelical Methodist Church. 12 residents had no denomination and the denomination was not determined for four residents.
