Liptovský Trnovec (until 1927 Slovak "Trnovec"; Hungarian Tarnóc ) is a municipality in the north of Slovakia with a population of 553 (December 31, 2019) that the Liptovský Mikuláš District of, part kraj Žilinský heard and traditional landscape Liptov counted becomes.
geography
The village is located in the central part of the Liptovská kotlina basin (part of the larger Podtatranská kotlina ), in the valley of the Petruška brook . The municipal area extends roughly north-south direction and includes the southwestern slopes of the Western Tatras around the valley Sucha dolina immediately north, the hill country like landscape of the village and part of Liptauer reservoir together with the sheltered peninsula Ratkovie . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 570 m nm and is seven and a half kilometers from Liptovský Mikuláš .
Beňušovce , located about two kilometers north of the main town, also belongs to the municipality .
Neighboring municipalities are Zuberec in the north, Bobrovec , Pavlova Ves (Babky cadastral municipality) and Bobrovček in the northeast, Liptovské Beharovce , Pavlova Ves (capital) and again Bobrovec in the east, Liptovský Mikuláš (Ráztoky district) in the southeast, Galovany in the south, Liptovská Sielnica municipality Liptovská Mara and main town) in the southwest and west as well as Liptovské Matiašovce and Kvačany in the northwest.
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1283 as Tornouch , but existed earlier, at least from the 12th century. The area was then part of the royal estate and came under the rule of Liptov Castle in the second half of the 13th century . In 1429 Trnovec received town and market rights from King Sigismund with privileges based on the model of the nearby town Deutschliptsch (today Partizánska Ľupča). In the 15th century the town gained further rights, such as exemption from customs duties in 1480. From the middle of the 16th century Trnovec came under the rule of the Likava Castle and then developed further as a minor town . In 1625 there were 30 farms and 61 resident families, in 1828 there were 147 houses and 1,094 inhabitants who were employed as farmers, but also as brewers, distillers, raftsmen, craftsmen and linen weavers.
Until 1918, the place in Liptov County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. During the time of the first Czechoslovak Republic, Trnovec remained an agricultural place.
population
According to the 2011 census, Liptovský Trnovec had 562 inhabitants, 547 of whom were Slovaks , five Czechs and one each Magyar and Ukrainian . Eight residents did not provide any information about their ethnicity.
224 residents committed themselves to the Evangelical Church AB, 221 residents to the Roman Catholic Church, two residents to the Orthodox Church and one resident each to the Pentecostal movement and to the Reformed Church. 87 inhabitants had no denomination and the denomination of 26 inhabitants was not determined.

tourism
South of Liptovský Trnovec, the only recreational area extends directly on the bank of the Liptov reservoir with a campsite, accommodation, beach and a landing stage for boat tours around the reservoir. About two kilometers in the direction of Liptovský Mikuláš you will find the Aquapark Tatralandia .

The 2nd order road 584 passes through Liptovský Trnovec between Podbiel and Liptovský Mikuláš. The nearest train station is Liptovský Mikuláš on the Košice – Žilina railway, six kilometers away.
