history

Jamník was first mentioned in writing as Yemnik in 1346 and was owned by Nikolaus, son of Alexander and the ancestor of the Pottornyai family . From the middle of the 14th century the village belonged to the noble family von Liptovský Peter, after their extinction in the late 15th century the property came into the hands of Pottornyai and remained there until the 19th century. While a tax was due for five farms in 1549, it was only three and a half in 1596, and at the same time the proportion of Söllner families rose. In 1828 there were 49 houses and 396 inhabitants who were employed as shepherds and farmers, in addition they worked as masons, especially in the second half of the 19th century, for example in Budapest .

In the Middle Ages and modern times there was a village called Zenthlylek (first mentioned in 1286, today's Slovak Svätý Duch , loosely translated Holy Spirit Village), which was not far from Jamník. Like Jamník it belonged to the ancestors of the Pottornyami family and the family itself. In 1709 the village was abandoned because of the Kuruc uprisings.

Until 1918, the place in Liptov County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

The place name is derived from the Slavic (and Slovak) word jama , in German hole, with various explanatory theories.
