Východná ( Hungarian Vichodna - until 1888 Vihodna ) is a municipality in central Slovakia . It is located in the Podtatranská kotlina basin , between the Low and Western Tatras , about 22 kilometers from Liptovský Mikuláš and 30 kilometers from Poprad .

The place was first mentioned in 1269 as pratum Wihadna .

Since 1954 the folklore festival Východná ( Slovak Folklórný festival Východná ) has been organized regularly in the village , a show of Slovak and foreign folk culture.

Transport links

The community is located directly on the D1 motorway and has its own motorway exit. Východná can also be reached by bus from Liptovský Mikuláš and Poprad or via long-distance bus lines. The train station on the Žilina-Košice railway line is 3 km from the village.
