Závažná Poruba (until 1946 in Slovak "Zavážna Poruba" - until 1927 "Zavažná Poruba" or also "Liptovská Poruba"; Hungarian Németporuba ) is a municipality in northern Slovakia , with 1268 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) belonging to the Okres Liptovský Mikuláš , part of the Žilinský kraj, is part of the traditional Liptov region .
geography
The municipality is located in the central Liptov. The nearly 18.7 square kilometer area extends from the basin Podtatranská kotlina flowing Vah in the north ( 615 m nm ) over the center of the valley Lažtek ( 643 m nm ) up in the Low Tatras located mountain Krakova hoľa ( 1752 m nm ) inside. The "local mountain", however, is the Poludnica ( 1549 m nm ), under which there is a ski area called Opalisko. The village is five kilometers from Liptovský Mikuláš .
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1377 as possessio Nemethporuba . Since the foundation, the population lived mainly from cattle and sheep breeding, later also from agriculture. Masonry and carpentry were common in the 19th and 20th centuries.
Surname
The word “Poruba” refers to the clearing created by loggers on the then still wooded bank of the Waag. The “Német” (= German) in the Hungarian name has nothing to do with the population, but with the type of foundation under German law (see Schultheiss ).
