Liptovská Porúbka (until 1948 Slovak "Porúbka"; Hungarian Kisporuba ) is a municipality in the north of Slovakia with a population of 1,185 (December 31, 2019) that the Liptovský Mikuláš District , part of the kraj Žilinský heard and the traditional landscape Liptov is counted .

The municipality is located in the Upper Liptov, in the Podtatranská kotlina basin , more precisely in the lower part of the Liptovská kotlina on the northern slope of the Low Tatras and on the left bank of the Váh . The almost 42.16 km² large municipal area is only a small part in the valley basin, the rest is in the Low Tatras, reaching in the east as far as the Boca river . Significant mountains in the municipality are the Ohnište ( 1538  m nm ) and the Rovná hoľa ( 1723  m nm ) at the southern end. The center of the village lies at an altitude of 649  m nm and is two kilometers from Liptovský Hrádok and 12 kilometers from Liptovský Mikuláš .

Neighboring municipalities are Liptovský Hrádok in the north, Hybe and Kráľová Lehota in the east, Malužiná in the southeast, Nižná Boca in the south, Liptovský Ján and Uhorská Ves (via the Vislavce exclave ) in the west (in the Low Tatras) and on a short section Podtureň in the north-west .

history

The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1377 as Crisonporuba, i.e. as a village in a forest clearing, which was named after a certain Crison (Slovakized Križan ). It belonged to the Szentiványi family from nearby Liptovský Ján and was founded under German law. In 1784 there were 68 houses and 878 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 91 houses and 1,285 inhabitants who were employed in agriculture and as raftsmen and basket makers. During the revolution of 1848/49 , the local judge Michal Frniak organized volunteers for the Slovak uprising .

Until 1918, the place in Liptov County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

From 1971 to 1992 Liptovská Poruba was part of the town of Liptovský Hrádok.

According to the 2011 census, Liptovská Porúbka had 1156 inhabitants, 1039 of whom were Slovaks, 45 Roma, six Czechs, two Moravians, two Poles and one Russian; two residents were of a different ethnicity. 59 residents did not provide any information. 505 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church, 331 residents supported the Evangelical Church AB, 26 residents supported the Jehovah's Witnesses, five residents each for the Seventh-day Adventists and the Greek Catholic Church, and four residents for the Evangelical Methodist Church , two residents each for the apostolic church, evangelistic church and orthodox church and one resident for the reformed church; one resident was of a different denomination. 152 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 120 residents was not determined.

Liptovská Porúbka can be reached via a district road from Liptovský Hrádok (connection to 1st order road 18 ). There is also a train station on the Žilina – Košice railway line .
