The history of Vyšná Boca is closely related to that of Nižná Boca . First mentions date back to 1285, but a permanent settlement did not emerge until the 16th century. Above all gold, silver, copper and iron ore were mined. In 1552 the place became the seat of a mining court. In 1784 the village had 61 houses and 373 inhabitants. After the decline of mining in the late 19th century, many residents emigrated, while others were employed as cattle farmers and as workers in foreign mines.

The place in Liptov County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to Czechoslovakia and finally to Slovakia.
