Bobrovec (Hungarian Nagybobróc ) is a place and a municipality in northern Slovakia , with 1964 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) and is located in Okres Liptovský Mikuláš , a sub-part of Žilinský kraj .

Bobrovec is located in the traditional Liptov region in the western part of the Podtatranská kotlina basin under the Western Tatras (part of the Tatras ). The Jalovský creek flows east of the village and flows into the Liptov reservoir . The town center, at an altitude of 634 m nm , is six kilometers from Liptovský Mikuláš .
history
The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1231 and belonged directly to the Hungarian king until 1279. In 1310 the village received market rights. In 1482 the town was also granted town charter based on Magdeburg law and had some town-like features. In addition to agriculture, handicrafts and trade, and later masonry in particular, were important.
The name Bobrovec, like the name of the northern town Bobrovček , is derived from the word bobor , German beaver .
