Galovany (1920-1948 "Galoväny"; Hungarian Gálfalu ) is a municipality in central Slovakia, west of Liptovský Mikuláš , with 310 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).
The place was mentioned for the first time in 1600. Since 1971 the community has also included:
- the place Dechtáre , which was created after 1863 through the merger of the 2 independent places Horné Dechtáre (German Ober-Bettendorf ) and Nižné Dechtáre (German Unter-Bettendorf )
- and the place Paludza (whereas Galovany was incorporated into Paludza from 1882 to 1948).
Dechtáre was cleared when the Liptov reservoir was built (1970-75), and the name of a motorway service station still reminds of the place today.
