Vlachy (Hungarian Nagyolaszi ) is a municipality in northern Slovakia with 609 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to the Okres Liptovský Mikuláš , part of the Žilinský kraj , and is part of the traditional Liptov region .
geography
The municipality is located in the western part of the Liptovská kotlina basin (part of the larger Podtatranská kotlina ) at the confluence of the Kľačianka in the Waag , in a position between the Liptov reservoir ( Liptovská Mara in Slovak ) to the east and the smaller Bešeňová reservoir to the west of the village. The town center is located at an altitude of 528 m nm and is 15 kilometers from Ružomberok and 17 kilometers from Liptovský Mikuláš .
Vlachy is divided into four cadastral municipalities: Krmeš (incorporated in 1924), Vlachy, Vlašky (incorporated in 1976) and Sokolče (incorporated in 1971), which disappeared a few years later in the Liptov reservoir. The municipality part Vlašky includes the municipality of the former places Demčiny (incorporated in 1863) and Vrbie (incorporated in 1968), which are now flooded by the Bešeňová reservoir.
Neighboring municipalities are Bobrovník in the north, Liptovská Sielnica (district Liptovská Mara ) in the northeast, Galovany in the east, Gôtovany in the southeast, Ľubeľa in the south, Malatíny and Partizánska Ľupča in the southwest, Liptovský Michal and Bešeňoková in the north-west and Potatoes .
history
Today's place was founded at the turn of the 12th to the 13th century by Walloon settlers ("Welsche") from what is now the Belgian-French border area, who worked as stone cutters on the construction of Liptov Castle . The first recorded name, Villa Latina from 1262, shows the origin of the first settlers. In the same year John, known as Gallicus , received from King Béla IV. , For the duty of defending the Liptov Castle, a four- hoof property west of Vlachy. In 1268 there was a country estate and a church between Vlachy and Malatíny. In modern times, Vlachy belonged to a branch of the Kubínyi family . In 1715 the village had 11 taxpayers, all of them Söllner. In 1828 there were 25 houses and 195 inhabitants who were employed as raftsmen and farmers.
Until 1918, the place in Liptov County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Vlachy had 595 inhabitants, including 578 Slovaks , four Czechs and three Russians . 10 residents gave no information on ethnicity.
358 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, 113 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, six residents to the Evangelical Methodist Church and one resident to the Greek Catholic Church; three residents professed a different denomination. 85 residents had no denomination and 29 residents had no denomination.

traffic
The Liptovské Vlachy stop on the Košice – Žilina railway line is located between the districts of Vlachy and Krmeš, right next to the D1 motorway .
There are only local road connections to Potok and Ľubeľa (connection to road 1st order 18 ).
