Svätý Kríž (Hungarian Szentkereszt ) is a municipality in the Okres Liptovský Mikuláš within the Žilinský kraj in Slovakia .
The place is in the Podtatranská kotlina ( Lower Tatra Basin) on the Krížanka brook, between the Low Tatras in the south and the Liptov reservoir in the north.
The name (German equivalent would be "Heiligenkreuz") refers to an old Gothic church of the finding of the cross, which was built in the 13th century. The place then later took over the name and was first mentioned in 1277 as Chermele . In 1863 the previously independent places Ančikovany, Priechod and Záhorovisko were incorporated, in 1882 even Cínovisko, Črmnô, Kraľovany, Motkovisko and Stráňany.
In Svätý Kríž there is an Evangelical articulated church from 1693, which was originally located in the Paludza parish . After the place was abandoned in 1974 during the construction of the Liptov reservoir, the church was moved here.
