Liptovské Matiašovce (Hungarian Mattyasóc ) is a municipality in northern Slovakia with 321 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to the Okres Liptovský Mikuláš , part of the Žilinský kraj , and is part of the traditional Liptov region .
geography
The community is located in the central part of the basin Liptovská kotlina (part of the larger Podtatranská kotlina ) in the valley of the stream Suchý brook , below the transition from Chočgebirge in the West Tatra . The center of the village is at an altitude of 623 m nm and is 14 kilometers from Liptovský Mikuláš .
Neighboring municipalities are Kvačany in the west and north, Liptovský Trnovec in the east and south and Liptovská Sielnica in the southwest.
history
In today's municipal area there was a settlement of the Puchau culture and one in Roman times.
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1412 as Mathiassfalawa and was owned by the local Mattyasovszky family and other noble families. From the 17th to the early 20th century, the village was divided into two separate places, Nižné Matiašovce and Vyšné Matiašovce. In 1784 the villages had 31 houses and 233 inhabitants or 15 houses and 132 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 31 houses and 256 inhabitants or 16 houses and 151 inhabitants. The main source of income was agriculture.
Until 1918, the places in Liptov County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia and finally to Slovakia. In 1924 the places now called Dolné Matiašovce and Horné Matiašovce were reunited.

According to the 2011 census, Liptovské Matiašovce had 300 inhabitants, 297 of whom were Slovaks and one German and one Czech . One resident gave no information about ethnicity.
282 residents committed to the Roman Catholic Church, five residents to the Evangelical Church AB and one resident to the Greek Catholic Church. Six residents had no denomination and the denomination of six residents was not determined.
