Liptovský Peter (Slovak 1946–1960 "Liptovský Svätý Peter" - until 1946 "Svätý Peter"; Hungarian Szentpéter ) is a municipality in northern Slovakia with 1318 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to Okres Liptovský Mikuláš , part of the Žilinský kraj and is part of the traditional Liptov region .

geography

The municipality is located in the eastern Liptov, in the Podtatranská kotlina basin , more precisely in the lower part of Liptovská kotlina . The Belá , which is part of the Waag river system , flows past the village to the east . The 6.12 km² large municipal area is largely deforested and covered by alluvial and brown soils. The center of the village is at an altitude of 681  m nm and is two kilometers from Liptovský Hrádok and 13 kilometers from Liptovský Mikuláš .

history

The place was first mentioned in writing in 1286 as Zenthpetur and Scentpeter and belonged to the sons of Serefel , descendants of comes Bohumír and ancestors of the Szentiványi family . The latter kept the village until 1848. Smaller parts belonged to the Pottornai family from Podtureň . After 1363 the village developed into a market town, but was soon downgraded to a simple village. In 1709 the place was completely destroyed during the Rákóczi uprising .

In 1784 there were 52 houses and 416 inhabitants, in 1828 62 houses and 520 inhabitants. Most of the inhabitants worked as farmers, in the 19th century there were many bricklayers who worked in Budapest , among other places .

Until 1918, the place in Liptov County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. During the Second World War, residents took an active part in the Slovak National Uprising . The local LPG was founded in 1950.

From 1971 to 1992 the municipality was part of the town of Liptovský Hrádok.

According to the 2011 census, Liptovský Peter had 1,362 inhabitants, including 1,119 Slovaks, 47 Roma, 27 Czechs, three Magyars, two Poles and two Moravians, and one Russian, one Serb, one Russian and one Bulgarian. 158 residents did not provide any information. 440 residents supported the Evangelical Church AB, 404 residents the Roman Catholic Church, twelve residents the Greek Catholic Church, seven residents the Orthodox Church, five residents the Evangelical Methodist Church; all other denominations had fewer than five followers. 12 residents were of other denominations. 271 inhabitants had no denomination and the denomination of 203 inhabitants has not been determined.
