Gôtovany (1920-1946 Slovak "Gôtoväny"; Hungarian Guotfalu ) is a municipality in the north of Slovakia with a population of 474 (December 31, 2019) that the Liptovský Mikuláš District of, part kraj Žilinský heard and the traditional landscape Liptov counted becomes.

The community is located in the western half of the Liptovská kotlina basin (part of the larger Podtatranská kotlina ) below the Low Tatras on the Črmník and Dúbravka streams just before the confluence with the Liptov reservoir . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 595  m nm and is 12 kilometers from Liptovský Mikuláš .

In addition to Gôtovany, the municipality also includes Fiačice, a place incorporated in 1924, which today no longer forms a district.

Neighboring municipalities are Vlachy (cadastral municipality Sokolče ) in the north, Galovany in the east, Svätý Kríž in the southeast, Dúbrava in the south, Ľubeľa in the southwest and again Vlachy in the west.

Evangelical house of prayer

Gôtovany was first mentioned in writing in 1358 as Ipochfalva and developed into a place owned by the lower nobility, namely the Guoth family . In 1784 the village had 14 houses and 87 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 13 houses and 98 inhabitants who were employed as farmers.

Fiačice was first mentioned in writing in 1267 as terra Fyotha and was also owned by families of the lower nobility, in the 18th century the Kubínyi family . In 1784 the village had 22 houses and 193 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 32 houses and 254 inhabitants who were employed as farmers.

The places in Liptov County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to Czechoslovakia and finally to Slovakia. During the time of the first Czechoslovak Republic, the inhabitants also worked in the surrounding industrial plants as well as miners and construction workers.

population

According to the 2011 census, there were 420 inhabitants in Gôtovany, 402 of whom were Slovaks , five Czechs and two Ukrainians . One resident indicated a different ethnic group and 10 residents gave no information about the ethnic group .

232 residents committed to the Evangelical Church AB, 134 residents to the Roman Catholic Church, four residents to the Jehovah's Witnesses, two residents to the Orthodox Church and one resident each to the Old Catholic Church, the Evangelical Methodist Church, the Reformed Church and one not denomination listed. 30 residents had no denomination and 14 residents had no denomination.
