Liptovský Ondrej (Slovak 1948–1952 "Liptovský Svätý Ondrej" - until 1948 "Svätý Ondrej"; German Andreasdorf , Hungarian Szentendre ) is a municipality in northern Slovakia with 615 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to the Okres Liptovský Mikuláš , belongs to part of Žilinský kraj and is part of the traditional Liptov region .

The community is located in the basin Liptovská kotlina (part of the larger Podtatranská kotlina ) below the hill Baranec ( 2185  m nm ) in the West Tatra , at the confluence of the streams brook Konský and Trnovec , in the catchment area of the Vah . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 680  m nm and is ten kilometers from Liptovský Mikuláš .

Neighboring communities are Konská in the north, Jakubovany in the northeast, Jamník in the south, Beňadiková and Liptovský Mikuláš (district Okoličné ) in the southeast and Veterná Poruba in the west.

history

The place arose in the former area of ​​the village Uhorská Ves , where border guards for the Hungarian state lived. Liptovský Ondrej was first mentioned in writing in 1332 as S. Andreas and was named after the Gothic St. Andrew's Church, which was built towards the end of the 13th century. The village belonged to the Andreánszky family . In 1828 there were 41 houses and 301 inhabitants who were employed in agriculture and as masons and carpenters.

Until 1918, the place in Liptov County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Liptovský Ondrej had 600 inhabitants, including 588 Slovaks, four Czechs and one German, one Moravian and one Pole; one resident was of a different ethnicity. Four residents did not provide any information. 350 residents committed themselves to the Evangelical Church AB, 130 residents to the Roman Catholic Church, three residents each to the Evangelical Methodist Church and the Orthodox Church and two residents to the Greek Catholic Church; three residents were of other denominations. 96 inhabitants had no denomination and the denomination of 13 inhabitants was not determined.
