Huty ( Hungarian Hutti ) is a municipality in northern Slovakia with 156 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to the Okres Liptovský Mikuláš , part of the Žilinský kraj , and is part of the traditional Liptov region .

The community is located in a high valley within the Lower Tatras Rift ( Podtatranská brázda in Slovak ), between the Tatra Mountains in the east and the Skorušinské vrchy mountains in the west, in the headwaters of the Hutnianka brook . The town center is located at an altitude of 789  m nm and is 28 kilometers from Tvrdošín and 31 kilometers from Liptovský Mikuláš .

Neighboring municipalities are Krivá and Oravský Biely Potok in the north, Zuberec in the northeast and east, Kvačany in the south, Veľké Borové in the southwest and Malé Borové in the west.

history

Church in Huty

The place originated at the beginning of the 16th century, when Goral settlers from the upper Arwa settled here around the local glassworks. Huty was first mentioned in writing in 1545. Part of the village belonged to the noble family Dvorníkovci from Liptovská Teplá , the other part to the Abaffy family from Lúčky . In 1784 the village had 126 houses and 800 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 186 houses and 1,290 inhabitants who were initially employed as glassworks workers, shepherds and farmers, and later as home glassmakers and weavers.

Until 1918, the place in Liptov County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, there were 186 inhabitants in Huty, 185 of them Slovaks . One resident gave no information about ethnicity .

177 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, three residents to the Evangelical Church AB and one resident to the Evangelical Methodist Church. Two residents were without a denomination and the denomination of three residents was not determined.
