Liptovská Teplá (up to the 19th century Slovak "Teplá"; German Bad Liptsch , Hungarian Liptótepla - until 1892 Tepla ) is a municipality in the Okres Ružomberok within the Žilinský kraj in Slovakia with about 1000 inhabitants.
geography
The municipality is located in the far west of the Podtatranská kotlina basin on the right bank of the Váh at the confluence with the Teplianka brook . The Chočské vrchy rise north of the village . It is located 10 kilometers east of Ružomberok and 16 kilometers west of Liptovský Mikuláš .
In addition to the main town, the municipality also includes the district Madočany (since 1960; 1913-1960 was part of the neighboring municipality Lúčky ). Furthermore, the neighboring municipality Ivachnová 1976-1990 was part of Liptovská Teplá.
history
The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1264, but its existence is proven as early as the 11th century. The place, named after the Teplianka brook flowing through it , was the seat of a royal dominion, which, however, became smaller and smaller in the 13th and 14th centuries due to numerous village foundations. Teplá was part of the Likava Castle estate until the 16th century , when it was owned by lesser nobles. Since the 18th century the place developed as a market town.
The population engaged in agriculture, cattle breeding, wood processing and rafting.
