geography

The municipality is located in the upper course of the Revúca River , just a few kilometers east of the source. It is located between the Great Fatra Mountains , which stretch north and west of the municipality, and an extension of the Low Tatras in the south. The only road that can be used all year round runs to Liptovská Osada , with a connection to Ružomberok . A forest road over the Veľký Šturec pass can be used to reach the neighboring village of Motyčky on the way to Banská Bystrica .

Liptovské Revúce is divided into the following parts of the municipality:

  • Nižná Revúca ("Lower Revúca")
  • Stredná Revúca ("Middle Revúca")
  • Vyšná Revúca ("Upper Revúca")

history

The area of the place, whose name is derived from the flowing river Revúca, is mentioned for the first time in 1233 in a document of Andrew II. 1233 as Terra Reucha . A century later he was mentioned as Reuce in a document from the town of Rosenberg (today Ružomberok) . The old Slavic settlement fell in 1355 and the place did not appear again until the late 15th century when a copper smelter was built there to process the copper required in nearby Špania Dolina . After the hut went down, it was entirely farming with sheep breeding. In 1625 the current districts of Nižná Revúca and Stredná Revúca appear in a document from the Likava castle as Hričkov , in 1671 there is also a distinction between Malý Hričkov ( i.e. Klein-Hričkov) and Veľký Hričkov (Groß-Hričkov). These places were later known as Tri Revúce, which merged in 1786 to form today's municipality.
