Valaská Dubová (up to 1927 in Slovak "Valašská Dubová"; Hungarian Oláhdubova , Latin Dubova Valachorum ) is a municipality in northern central Slovakia with 786 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to the Okres Ružomberok , a district of the Žilinský kraj , and is part of the traditional Landscape Liptov is counted.
geography
The municipality is located in the narrow valley of the Likavka brook between the Great Fatra Mountains (lower part of Šípska Fatra) and Chočské vrchy . To the north of the village lies the Brestová pass ( 720 m nm ) and to the east the Veľký Choč mountain ( 1611 m nm ). The center of the village lies at an altitude of 649 m nm and is seven kilometers north of Ružomberok and eight kilometers south of Dolný Kubín .
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1323 as Dubova . The adjective Valaská (or in Hungarian Oláh ) is reminiscent of the Wallachian colonization of the area from the 14th to the 17th century. For this reason, the inhabitants mostly worked as shepherds. Initially, the place belonged to the estate of the Likava Castle and was therefore in Liptov County , in 1556 ownership changed to Arwa Castle and Lage to Arwa County .
A brick church was built in 1750 and expanded in 1815. In 1828 there are 99 houses and 743 inhabitants.
Until 1918 the place belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. In 1935, 121 houses and two water mills fell victim to a major fire. After a change of district in 1941 Valaská Dubová came back to Liptov, as part of the Ružomberok Okres.
