Komjatná (Hungarian Komjatno ) is a municipality in northern central Slovakia with 1552 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to the Okres Ružomberok , a district of the Žilinský kraj , and is part of the traditional Liptov region .
geography
The municipality is located below the Šípska Fatra massif, a part of the Little Fatra on the upper course of the Komjatná brook , on the border between the Liptov and Orava landscapes . The center of the village is at an altitude of 634 m nm and is 11 kilometers away from both Ružomberok and Dolný Kubín .
Studničná, which was incorporated in the 19th century (mentioned in writing in 1600), was part of the municipality and remains a part of the municipality to this day.
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1330. The old Heilig-Geist-Kirche was probably built in the 14th century, mentioned in 1492 and disappeared with the construction of the new church in 1823. The inhabitants were engaged in agriculture, but also basket making and wood carving.
