Martinček (up to the 19th century Slovenian "Svätý Martin"; Hungarian Szentmárton or Liptó Szent Márton ; German St. Martin in der Liptau ) is a municipality in the Okres Ružomberok within the Žilinský kraj in northern Slovakia with 450 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2019).
geography
The municipality is located at the western end of the Liptovská kotlina basin , the western part of the larger Podtatranská kotlina , on the right bank of the Váh below the Chočské vrchy mountains . The center of the village is at an altitude of 583 m nm and is about four and a half kilometers (road distance) from Ružomberok .
Neighboring communities are Likavka in the west and Lisková in the east.
history
In today's municipality there was a fortress of the Puchau culture on the Mních mountain , and in 1914 fourteen bronze swords and other objects from the Young Bronze Age were found in the Hlinisko district.
The place Martinček was mentioned in writing for the first time in an unspecified document from the reign of Ladislaus IV (1272-1290), which was cited in 1391. The settlement developed in the vicinity of St. Martin's Church, built around 1260, which was originally designed only as a parish church for the neighboring towns of Likavka and Lisková. The parish is recorded in 1332 as Sanctus Martinus de Liptovia . Until 1848 Martinček belonged to the Likava Castle estate .
In 1784 there are 28 houses and 229 inhabitants and finally 39 houses and 274 inhabitants in 1828.

According to the 2011 census, there were 386 residents in Martinček, including 379 Slovaks, three Czechs and one Moravian. Three residents made no statement. 364 residents admitted to the Roman Catholic Church and two residents to the Protestant Church AB. Twelve residents had no denomination and eight residents had no denomination.
