Liptovský Michal (until 1955 in Slovak "Liptovský Svätý Michal"; Hungarian Szentmihály ) is a municipality in Okres Ružomberok within Žilinský kraj in northern Slovakia with 308 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).
geography
The community is located in the Liptovská kotlina basin , a subunit of the Podtatranská kotlina at the mouth of the Ľupčianka brook in the Váh (across the Bešeňová reservoir ). The center of the village lies at an altitude of 526 m nm and is eleven kilometers from Ružomberok .
Neighboring municipalities are Bešeňová in the north, Vlachy in the east, Partizánska Ľupča in the south and Ivachnová in the west.
history
The place arose in the 13th century in the area of the village Ľupča and was first mentioned in writing in 1331 as Ecclesia S. Michaelis , then in 1335 as Mysalfalva . The village belonged to the parish in the neighboring Liptovská Teplá , in the 18th century the Rády family from Ivachnová. In the 17th and 18th centuries there was a paper mill or iron hammer here. In 1828 there were 16 houses and 134 inhabitants.
Until 1918, the place in Liptov County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. In 1924 it was affiliated with the Ivachnová community, but became independent again in 1955, this time without the attribute "svätý" (= holy), which was undesirable in communist Czechoslovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Liptovský Michal had 297 inhabitants, of which 282 were Slovaks and one each was Roma and Russian; one resident was of a different ethnicity. 12 residents gave no answer. 223 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, ten residents to the Evangelical Church AB, four residents to the Greek Catholic Church and three residents to the Evangelical Methodist Church; four residents were of other denominations. 35 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 18 residents has not been determined.

The nearest train station is in Liptovská Teplá ( Žilina – Košice line ). The 1st order road 18 runs through Liptovský Michal and there is a connection to the D1 motorway via the nearby Ivachnová junction.
