Yan Xuetong

Yan Xuetong (born December 7, 1952 in Tianjin , China) is a Chinese political scientist and director of the Institute for International Studies at Beijing Tsinghua University . He is editor-in-chief of The Chinese Journal of International Politics (Oxford University Press), author and government advisor. In 2008 he was named one of the "Top 100 public intellectuals" in the world by Foreign Policy .

Career

In 1982, Yan earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Heilongjiang University, in 1986 a Masters in International Relations from the Institute of International Relations, and in 1992 he received his Ph.D. at the University of California , Berkeley. Thanks to his mixture of good government connections and excellent English, he became a sought-after interviewee abroad on his return to China.

Since 2010 at the latest in his "Ancient Chinese Thought, Modern Chinese Power", published in English, he has become very clear in his call for the role of the country to be expanded on the world stage.

This was followed in 2011 by two articles he wrote in the New York Times , in which he speaks out against the tradition of Deng Xiaoping's cautious foreign policy , although he emphasizes that this is not the majority opinion. His second statement is even entitled "Like China America can beat "

He is an opponent of Alexander Wendt's political theories .

He is seen as a hard-line representative, whose opinions mirror those of the Chinese leadership.
