Liptovská Lúžna (until 1927 Slovak "Lužna"; Hungarian Lúzsna ) is a municipality in the Okres Ružomberok within the Žilinský kraj in Slovakia with about 2900 inhabitants.
geography
The community lies on the small brook Lúžňanka , a right tributary of the Revúca, which in turn is a tributary of the Waag , and lies in a narrow valley in the Low Tatras . To the west is the neighboring town of Liptovská Osada , where you have a connection to Ružomberok (distance 20 kilometers), to the east the road leads to the Prievalec pass ( 1100 m nm ), which ends behind the mountain range in Partizánska Ľupča .
history
The place is relatively young compared to other communities and was founded in 1670 at the instigation of István Thököly, the owner of the Likava castle , to whose estate the area belonged. At that time mainly inhabited by Gorals , who came from the Arwa on the then Hungarian northern border, got a wooden church in 1682, which was consecrated to the Assumption of Mary. This was replaced in 1848 by today's Church of the Trinity. The population was mainly engaged in agriculture and sheep breeding. There was also mining and, specifically, bear hunting, which is also shown on the coat of arms.
Most of the folk architecture with characteristic log houses has been preserved to this day, as has the wearing of local costume. Liptovská Lúžna is a tourist starting point to various destinations in the Low Tatras National Park .
