The Dražen Petrović basketball hall ( Croatian Košarkaški centar Dražen Petrović or Dvorana Dražen Petrović ) is a multi-purpose hall in the Croatian capital Zagreb . It is owned and home to the basketball club KK Cibona Zagreb . The hall currently offers 5,400 seats to visitors.
history
The hall was built for the 1987 Summer Universiade . Until 1993 the arena was named Cibona Sports Center . In memory of Dražen Petrović , member of the Basketball Hall of Fame , one of the best European basketball players of all time and a former player from Cibona Zagreb, the sports facility was named on October 4th, 1993. Dražen Petrović died on June 7, 1993 in a car accident on the A 9 in Denkendorf near Ingolstadt . Next to the hall is the Muzej Dražen Petrović Museum . It was officially opened on June 7, 2006; the 13th anniversary of Dražen Petrović's death.
Concerts are also held in the hall. In 1989 Archbishop Franjo Kuharić organized the first Christmas concert; this has taken place annually since then. In addition, u. a. P! Nk , Pet Shop Boys , José Carreras , James Brown , Joe Cocker , Seal , Muse , Diana Krall , Nightwish , Simple Minds , Michael Bolton , Boney M. , Bryan Ferry and Pain .
