KK Cibona is a Croatian basketball club from the capital Zagreb .

history

The basketball club KK Cibona was founded in 1946 in Zagreb under the name "Sloboda". After a few name changes in the 1950s, the association carried the name Lokomotiva for a long time and was given the final name Cibona in 1975, which goes back to a company conglomerate in the food sector (the companies that belonged to this conglomerate were Franck, Badel, Kras and others). The name is a combination of the words CIpele BOmboni NAra for shoes, sweets, Nara (a Croatian soft drink).

The club's golden age was the 1980s when world-class players like Dražen Petrović and Krešimir Ćosić played at the club. 14 titles were won between 1980 and 1987, including the European Champion Clubs' Cup in 1985 and 1987 . Since 1977, Cibona Zagreb has always participated in a European competition, with the exception of 1991/92.
