history
The oldest evidence of a settlement comes from the late Roman period. Written documents speak of a settlement in the area in the 14th century, but the place is not mentioned by name for the first time until 1425. The name comes from the name Stanko , as the first mayor was called. The first church, then still made of wood, was built in the 16th century. The place was in the territory of the Likava Castle and the inhabitants were active in agriculture, sheep breeding, rafting and basket making.
In 1828 there are 138 houses and 756 inhabitants. In 1831, 137 people died in a cholera epidemic.
