The central Slovakia ( Slovak Stredné Slovensko ) is:

• informally the middle third of the territory of Slovakia
• in the administrative structure 1960–1990 of Stredoslovenský kraj
• a statistical region of Slovakia according to the NUTS classification.

It consists of 2 of the 8 Slovak Kraje (about 33% of the land area and about 25% of the population) ( code: SK03 ):

• Žilinský kraj ( Waagtal , Little Fatra / Big Fatra , Low Tatras / West Tatras )
• Banskobystrický kraj ( Ipeľ and Grantal , Schemnitz Mountains , Low Tatras, Slovak Ore Mountains )
