Kalameny (Hungarian Kelemenfalu ) is a municipality in Okres Ružomberok within Žilinský kraj in northern Slovakia with 452 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

The municipality is located in the north-western part of the Liptovská kotlina basin , a sub-unit of the Podtatranská kotlina below the Chočské vrchy Mountains . The Kalamenianka brook flows through the village at the end of its valley. The center of the village lies at an altitude of 560  m nm and is 13 kilometers away from Ružomberok .

history

Kalameny was created in 1264 by spinning off the area of Liptovská Teplá and bears the name of the first ruler, who was called Kelemen . The village is mentioned in 1375 as Kelemenfolua and belonged to local nobles in the 15th and 16th centuries, who in turn lived in five country estates. In 1828 there were 28 houses and 252 inhabitants who were employed in agriculture and sheep breeding.

Until 1918, the place in Liptov County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, there were 460 inhabitants in Kalameny, 451 of whom were Slovaks, two Czechs and one Magyar and one Moravian. Five residents did not provide any information. 426 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church and ten residents supported the Evangelical Church. AB 19 residents were non-denominational and five residents had no denomination.
