Brigitte Stefan & Meridian , originally JTO Meridian , is a German band that was founded in the GDR in 1969 and existed until 1990. The band turned to the Neue Deutsche Welle in 1981 and achieved their greatest successes.

history

In 1969 the group was founded by Heinz Putz - back then as JTO Meridian. The abbreviation “JTO” stood for “youth dance orchestra”, a term used in the GDR music scene for music bands.

In 1976 the band was renamed Brigitte Stefan & Meridian. With the acquisition of professional IDs, which was a prerequisite for professional work in the GDR, the band switched to the professional camp. The band now made regular radio recordings. The first record was released in 1976 with the song Oh, was that a guy.

With the success of the Neue Deutsche Welle, the band found its musical role in GDR popular music. Line 6 in the style of the West Berlin band Ideal was a first hit. This was followed by other successful songs like When you think I'm stupid, men and alone. Songs sung by Ideal were also part of the repertoire .

In 1985 the band released their first album after various radio productions and deployments on Amiga samplers.

At the end of the 1980s the group was renamed Brigitte Stefan & Band. After the reunification , the band broke up in November 1990.

Brigitte Stefan
