Orava (German Arwa , Hungarian Árva , Latin Arva , Polish Orawa ) is a landscape in northern Slovakia and in the south of the Polish Lesser Poland Voivodeship . The name of the former Hungarian Arwa County is derived from it , the name itself is derived from the main castle of the area, the Arwaburg .

The landscape is located in northern central Slovakia and the Slovak name "Orava", which comes from the right-hand Váh tributary of the same name , is used today as an unofficial name for this area and as an official name for a tourist region.
