Heinrich Schmidt-Gayk

Heinrich Schmidt-Gayk (born June 9, 1944 in Bremervörde ; † September 18, 2007 in Heidelberg ) was a German laboratory physician and osteologist .

Schmidt-Gayk attended high school in Stade and, after graduating from high school, studied medicine in Erlangen , Hamburg and Marburg . In 1968 he passed his state examination. This was followed by a doctorate with a license to practice medicine in 1970. In 1978 he completed his habilitation in Heidelberg with the text Clinical Chemistry Calcium-regulating "messenger" and was an adjunct professor for laboratory medicine at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg . He was the scientific director of the Limbach laboratory in Heidelberg and head of the medical diagnostics laboratory network.

In 2005 he was awarded the honorary doctorate Doctor Honoris Causa from the Semmelweis University in Budapest .

He was particularly known for his research on vitamin D .
