Motyčky (Hungarian Martalja - until 1902 Motyók - until 1882 Moticsko ) is a small community in Okres Banská Bystrica within the Banskobystrický kraj in Slovakia with about 110 inhabitants.
The municipality is located in the Starohorské vrchy at the confluence of several streams and is located on the main road 59 between Banská Bystrica , 18 kilometers to the south and Donovaly , 5 kilometers to the east. From the several small settlements, in addition to Motyčky, Jergaly and Štubne are also listed as parts of the municipality, but there are also several settlements such as Bukovec, Dúvodno and Môce.
Today's community was first mentioned as Motischka in 1743 (other information speaks of as early as 1698 as Moticzko ), but the beginnings go back to the 16th century. During this time, several charcoal- burning settlements for the production of charcoal for the huts were built in the nearby towns of Liptovské Revúce and Špania Dolina . In 1652 four lumberjack and charcoal-burning villages are documented, namely Horná Pavlová (then German "Pawlowa Oberthail"), Dolná Pavlová ("Pawlowa undterthail"), Nad Rybníkom ("Ober dem Thaich") and Pri Rybníku ("On the Thaich") , with a total of 66 inhabitants. Up to the beginning of the 18th century the localities of Bukovec and Dúvodné also emerged. All of these settlements united in 1860 to form the Motyčky commune.
At that time most of the residents were employed in forestry or ironworks in the area. Today the majority commute down to Harmanec . Traditional lace production has been preserved to this day.
