Brusno (Slovak 1960–1973 "Hronov"; Hungarian Borosznó - until 1888 Brusznó ) is a municipality in the center of Slovakia , with 2167 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is located in the east of the Okres Banská Bystrica , which belongs to the Banskobystrický kraj .
geography
Brusno is located in the Horehronie region (Upper Grantal) on both banks of the Hron (German Gran) river, which here includes the right-hand Sopotnica and the left-hand Brusnianka . The municipality is located in the narrow valley between the Low Tatras in the north and Poľana in the south. The center of the village is 20 kilometers from Banská Bystrica and 23 kilometers from Brezno .
Administratively, the municipality is divided into parts of the municipality Brusno, Brusno-kúpele and Ondrej nad Hronom (incorporated in 1960).
history
Brusno and the neighboring Ondrej nad Hronom were mentioned in writing for the first time in 1424 as villa utraque Zenthandras , i.e. both St. Andrew's places, and were subject to the estate of Liptsch Castle , where agriculture was dominant. In 1441 Brusno is mentioned as Bruzno and Ondrej nad Hronom as villa Sancti Andree . Attempts to build a long-term mine already failed in the Middle Ages. A typical occupation was peddler , as well as woodcutters, shepherds and workers. In 1828 there were 77 houses and 581 inhabitants in Brusno, 105 houses and 760 inhabitants in Ondrej nad Hronom. The "discovery" of the mineral springs in the early 19th century gave a new impetus for development, but they were known earlier and the first spa house was completed in 1837.
Until 1918 both places in Sohl County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia. In 1960 Brusno and Svätý Ondrej nad Hronom, as the place was called at that time, merged to form the municipality of Hronov, which was renamed Brusno in 1973.
