Lučatín (Hungarian Lucsatő - until 1907 Lucsatő - until 1888 Lucsatin ) is a municipality in the center of Slovakia with 666 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) and belongs to the Okres Banská Bystrica , a district of the Banskobystrický kraj .

The municipality is located in the Horehronské podolie valley on the right bank of the Hron , between the Starohorské vrchy mountains and the Low Tatras in the north and the Poľana in the south. The center of the village lies at an altitude of 388  m nm and is 15 kilometers away from Banská Bystrica .

Lučatín is a typical street village along the former main road from Banská Bystrica to Brezno , which has been passing the town to the south since the 1970s.

Neighboring communities are Hiadeľ in the north, Medzibrod in the east, Ľubietová in the south, Slovenská Ľupča in the west and Moštenica in the north- west for short .

history

Lučatín originated before the 13th century and was first mentioned in writing in 1424 as Luchatheu . At that time it belonged to the estate of Liptsch Castle . During the Turkish wars and incursions of the 16th and 17th centuries, there was a fortress near the site, which was part of the network of fortifications in the then Lower Hungarian mountain towns. The main sources of income were agriculture and sheep farming, in the 18th century forestry and rafting were added. With the development of smelters and steel mills in the area, they worked as carters for them. In 1828 there were 63 houses and 494 inhabitants.

Until 1918 the place in Sohl County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or today Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, there were 637 residents in Lučatín, including 578 Slovaks, six Czechs, one German, one Jew, one Magyar and one Russian, and one resident who indicated a different ethnic group. 48 residents gave no information in this regard. 322 residents professed their support for the Roman Catholic Church, 157 residents for the Evangelical Church AB, three residents each for the Greek Catholic Church and the Evangelical Methodist Church and one resident for the Baha'itum. 90 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 61 residents was not determined.

In the village there are two stops on the Zvolen – Podbrezová railway line, namely Lučatín in the village and Ľubietová to the south-east and outside the built-up area. The 1st order road 66 runs outside the village, with connections not far from the Ľubietová stop and in Slovenská Ľupča.
