Oravce (Hungarian Oróc ) is a municipality in the middle of Slovakia , with 180 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) and belongs to the Okres Banská Bystrica , a district of the Banskobystrický kraj .
geography
The village is located in the mountainous part of the Zvolenská kotlina basin in the traditional Podpoľanie landscape , in the valley of the Ponický brook . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 424 m nm and is 17 kilometers away from Banská Bystrica .
Neighboring communities are Poniky in the north, Dúbravica in the east and south-east, Čerín in the south-west and west and Môlča in the north-west.
history
The place was probably built during the 14th century in the then dominion of the Vígľaš castle and was first mentioned in writing in 1557 as Orawcze . In the 16th and 17th centuries the village was owned by the Palugyay family , then the Radvány family . In 1828 there were 45 houses and 374 residents who were employed as farmers and cattle herders.
Until 1918 the place in Sohl County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or today Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, 178 inhabitants lived in Oravce, including 174 Slovaks . Four residents did not give any information about their ethnicity .
114 residents committed themselves to the Evangelical Church AB, 40 residents to the Roman Catholic Church and one resident to the Jehovah's Witnesses. 12 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 11 residents was not determined.
