Selce (Slovak until the 19th century "Selec"; Hungarian Szelcse , until 1888 Szelec ) is a municipality in the center of Slovakia with 2122 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is located in Okres Banská Bystrica , which belongs to the Banskobystrický kraj .
geography
Selce is located in the Horehronie valley landscape below the Starohorské vrchy mountains on the Selčiansky creek , six kilometers east of Banská Bystrica .
history
The place was first mentioned in 1332 as Omnes Sancti de Zolio , after the name of the local church of All Saints, then in 1340 as Selcze . For centuries, Selce was a farming village that belonged to the estate of the nearby Liptsch Castle .
