Priechod (Hungarian Perhát - until 1888 Priehod or Priechod ) is a municipality in the center of Slovakia with 968 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) and belongs to the Okres Banská Bystrica , a district of the Banskobystrický kraj .
geography
The municipality is located in the north-western part of the Horehronské podolie valley at the foot of the Starohorské vrchy Mountains , on the right bank of the Ľupčica . The center of the village is at an altitude of 460 m nm and is nine kilometers from Banská Bystrica .
Neighboring communities are Baláže in the north, Podkonice in the northeast, Slovenská Ľupča in the southeast and south and Selce in the west.
history
Priechod was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1340 as Prochod as part of the territory of the Liptsch Castle . The residents worked as lumberjacks and carters for the Neusohler Kammer as well as in the local sawmill. In 1828 there were 72 houses and 568 inhabitants; At that time, Priechod was more agricultural, with sheep farming being particularly widespread.
Until 1918 the place in Sohl County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or today Slovakia. In the first Czechoslovak Republic, residents sold cheeses like Parenica and Oštiepok across the country. After the suppression of the Slovak National Uprising in World War II , the village was looted and set on fire by the Wehrmacht for partisan support. After the end of the war, Priechod was rebuilt.

According to the 2011 census, 893 inhabitants lived in Priechod, 840 of them Slovaks and 4 Czechs. 49 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity.
719 residents professed to the Roman Catholic Church, 27 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, 3 residents to the Greek Catholic Church, 2 residents to the Jehovah's Witnesses and 1 resident to the Jewish community. 71 inhabitants were without a denomination and the denomination of 70 inhabitants was not determined.
