Vígľaš (until 1927 "Víglaš" in Slovak; Végles in Hungarian ) is a municipality in central Slovakia with 1588 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).
geography
The municipality is located in the Zvolenská kotlina basin on the Slatina River at the foot of the Javorie Mountains . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 385 m nm and is 12 kilometers from Detva and 15 kilometers from Zvolen .
In addition to the main town, the town of Pstruša also belongs to the municipality .
Neighboring municipalities are Očová in the north and northeast, Detva in the east, Stožok in the southeast, Klokoč and Slatinské Lazy in the south and Zvolenská Slatina in the west.
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1393. Vígľaš developed as a settlement below the Vígľaš castle .
population
According to the 2011 census, 1697 inhabitants lived in Vígľaš, of which 1513 were Slovaks , 36 Roma , five Czechs , two Magyars as well as a Carpathian German and a Russian . 139 inhabitants did not provide any information on ethnicity .
1175 residents professed to the Roman Catholic Church, 112 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, 11 residents to the Evangelical Methodist Church, four residents each to the Greek Catholic Church and the Reformed Church, three residents each to the Jehovah's Witnesses, to the Old Catholic Church and to the Orthodox Church, two residents each to the Pentecostal movement and to the Czechoslovak Hussite Church and one resident to the Mormons; five residents professed a different denomination. 200 inhabitants had no denomination and the denomination of 172 inhabitants was not determined.
