Klokoč (Hungarian Hegyhát - to 1888 Klokocs ) is a municipality in the middle of Slovakia with 495 inhabitants (December 31, 2019), which in Okres Detva of, part kraj Banskobystrický lies.
geography
The community is located at the foot of the Javorie Mountains. The town center is at an altitude of 550 m nm and is 18 kilometers from Detva and 24 kilometers from Zvolen .
The municipality is officially only one cadastral municipality, but is divided into 12 hamlets / individual settlements (Slovak regional Mz. Lazy ): Dedina, Bartkovci, Čelovci, Sliackovci, Miškovci, Kapcovci, Laz, Kubovci, Virodovci, Ľauková, Jašovci and Výbohana.
Neighboring municipalities are Vígľaš in the north, Stožok in the northeast and east, Stará Huta in the south, Vígľašská Huta-Kalinka in the southwest and Slatinské Lazy in the west.
history
For centuries, today's municipal area was sparsely populated, with only temporary settlements for lumberjacks, shepherds and charcoal burners. From the Middle Ages to the 19th century, the area belonged to the estate of the Vígľaš Castle . Today's community was first mentioned as part of it in 1786 and was made up of several individual settlements. In 1828 there were 42 houses and 352 residents who were employed as farmers, cattle keepers and forest workers. There were sulfur mines between 1840 and 1862.
The area in Sohl County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then became part of Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.
Place name
The name Klokoč means rattle nut in German and is intended to refer to these once abundant bushes. The Hungarian name "Hegyhát", introduced in 1888 (and official until 1918), means mountain ridge in German.
population
According to the 2011 census, 499 people lived in Klokoč, including 491 Slovaks and one German . Seven residents did not provide any information about their ethnicity.
398 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, 37 residents to the Evangelical Church AB and one resident to the Greek Catholic Church; six residents professed a different denomination. 31 residents were without a denomination and the denomination was not determined for 26 residents.
